What We See in DC Homes

Much of our DC work is in rowhouses and older single-family homes — many built before 1960 — along with condos and apartments in the District’s newer buildings. The layouts have little in common with a suburban colonial, and the plan changes with each one.

Rowhouse stairways

Narrow, steep stairs with an oversized post at the bottom and masonry on one side. Standard gates do not fit; we plan a mount for each staircase, top and bottom.

Original details

Century-old banisters, plaster walls, and trim worth protecting. Every mount is planned around the details, not through them.

English basements

Lower-level units and basement stairs off the main floor get the same walkthrough as the rest of the home.

Condos & apartments

Galley kitchens, balcony doors, and building rules on what can be mounted. We work within lease and condo-board limits.
