It’s most crucial for children under 4, particularly for those who are curious or active. Additionally, neurodivergent children may need adaptations for a longer time. Homes with unique risks, like a pool or multiple floors, warrant extended child proofing measures for added safety.
Here’s a general guide:
Infancy to Toddlerhood (6 months – 2 years): This is when baby proofing is critical. Children at this age are exploring, and have little awareness of danger.
Preschool Years (3-4 Years): As your child grows, their curiosity and ability to understand basic safety concepts increase. You may start to adjust some baby proofing measures to accommodate their growing independence, while still keep safety precautions in high risk areas.
School Age (5 Years and Beyond): By this age, most children have a better understanding of safety and danger, so many baby proofing measures can be removed. (An important note: 77% of tip over fatalities occur in children six years and younger, so securing televisions and other furniture is still a must.)

The cost of baby proofing can vary depending on the size of your home. We strive to offer competitive pricing while ensuring the highest quality of safety products and installation services.
Shipping & Returns
We recommend focusing on the rooms where your family and child spends the most time. The goal is to manage risk effectively, not create a fortress. A Virtual Safety Session can provide you with customized recommendations for your home.
All products purchased through the Safety Shop have a 30-day return window from the date of purchase. Products must be returned in new, unused condition, with all original packaging and accessories. All product returns require proof of purchase (receipt or order number). To initiate a return or exchange, submit an online return form or email to support@safestartchild.com. For defective and incorrect items, prepaid shipping labels will be provided for returns. For all other returns, customer will be responsible for return shipping costs. Refunds will be processed to the original method of payment within 3-5 business days of Safe Start receiving the returned item(s). For large returns, restocking fees may apply.
