Alisa Bishop

For over a decade, Alisa has been a professional baby proofer and has worked in thousands of homes, identifying hazards and designing solutions that improve the everyday lives of families. She founded Safe Start Child to bring a more thoughtful approach to child safety, one that combines safety knowledge, developmental science, visual design, product usability and long-term function.
Alisa lives in the Washington DC area with her husband, Russell Smith, chef-owner of Alfreda, a nationally recognized pizzeria, their two daughters and their dog, Marley. Her ideal day includes a crossword puzzle, another home improvement project and a date night in a new outfit.
Alisa is proficient with power tools, not afraid to climb onto a roof, and can install a baby gate in her sleep.
Tulio Villeda

Tulio is one of Safe Start’s most experienced safety technicians, and proof that excellence in child safety comes from skill, discipline and judgment.
With many years of hands-on residential construction experience, Tulio brings true craftsmanship to every installation. He has an expert understanding of structure and materials, knowledge that translates directly into safer, stronger and longer-lasting child proofing solutions. He understands the reasoning behind Safe Start’s more in-depth approach to home safety and executes it with precision and confidence.
Outside of work, Tulio spends time with his extended family, helps his father run the family contracting business, and goes to concerts.
Holly Theis

Holly brings an eye for design and uncompromising safety standards to every project. After intensive training with Safe Start’s senior safety experts, she now leads home safety consultations for families across the region.
Families quickly trust Holly’s calm, capable presence and her ability to translate safety needs into solutions that make sense for their home and lifestyle. Before joining Safe Start, Holly spent much of her career in interior design and professional home staging, developing an in-depth understanding of space, flow and how thoughtful details shape the way a home feels. Today she brings that expertise to child safety, making sure homes are safe and still beautiful.
Outside of work, Holly is at home with her husband, John, and their two babies, JoJo and Penelope.
Jose Prudencio

Jose brings a careful, conscientious approach to every Safe Start installation.
As an experienced contractor, he understands that child proofing is not only about making something secure. It also has to be installed cleanly, function properly and hold up to everyday family life. Jose is detail-oriented, practical and respectful of each home he works in. He takes the time to do the job correctly, whether he is installing gates, anchoring furniture, securing doors or solving the small site-specific challenges that come up in real homes.
Outside of work, Jose enjoys time with his wife and daughter, and loves soccer, both watching and playing.
