A Washington DC rowhouse baby proofed top to bottom. Rowhomes stack their rooms vertically, so the staircase is an important part of the job: every floor connects through it.
We installed a hardware-mounted Stairway Gate at the top of the stairs and a Retractable Gate below, using a black post mount on a standard newel post. The open banister got Kid Shield so a small child can’t become entrapped in the balusters.
Rowhomes may also have large pocket doors, which standard door locks don’t fit. The pocket door in this rowhouse got an Oversized Pocket Door Lock. The double-handle basement door got a dual flex lock, and the bathtub’s sharp edge got a corner cushion.
