Thoughtful Baby Proofing in Bethesda

With three staircases, wide hallway openings, and plenty of doors, this Bethesda home needed a child proofing plan that started with the stairs.

At the top of the second-floor staircase, we installed a white hardware-mounted stairway gate. Custom mounts wrapped around the oversized newel posts, providing a secure attachment without drilling into the posts themselves. White retractable gates at the main-floor stairway openings kept sight lines open and tucked away when not in use.

Next, we addressed the doors. We replaced all door stops with child-safe, one-piece stops and secured the front door with a Door Guardian. Top Door Locks secured closet and interior doors, while a Dual Flex Lock secured the double closet doors. A Door Wing gave the cats access to their litter box while keeping the baby out. A Pocket Door Lock and a Door Monkey helped restrict access to the closet and laundry room.

To complete the installation, we anchored the nursery furniture, added latches to all cabinets and drawers, and installed a bathroom toilet lock.
