A Great Falls home with an open staircase and a wide stone hearth — two places toddlers get hurt.
At the top of the stairs, a white stairway gate is mounted to the railing with black post mounts, so nothing is drilled into the posts and the hardware disappears against the newel posts. A second stairway gate sits in a door frame leading to another set of stairs, and retractable gates on matching post mounts handle the openings where a swinging gate would get in the way.
The fireplaces got two solutions: plexiglass across the opening of one, and gray hearth padding with wrapped corners over the raised stone hearth so the edge stops being a hazard without hiding the stone.
