Four Staircases, One Plan

This spacious Maryland home needed a dozen gates and a range of childproofing solutions chosen to complement its finishes.

In the third-floor recreation room, we installed a hardware-mounted stairway gate with custom-stained mounts fitted to the dark newel posts. In the formal foyer, a black retractable gate and matching post clamps coordinated with the wrought iron spindles. On the second floor, black and white retractable gates secured access to the curved marble staircase and the stairs leading to the third floor, with post mounts stained dark mahogany. 

We covered the formal living room fireplace with plexiglass. In the family room, we added Corner Cushions to the coffee table and ivory hearth padding along the raised edge and corners of the arched stone fireplace.

Latches secured kitchen and bathroom drawers, the dining buffet, and the bathroom vanity. Furniture Straps anchored dressers and nightstands, while Corner Cushions padded the nightstands’ low corners.

Beyond the stairways, we added a black Door Guardian to the back door, a Dual Flex Lock to the guest room’s double closet doors, and Top Door Locks to the bathroom doors. Hug Locks secured the nursery closets.
